3rdParty Document Imaging System Ratings.

All ratings are based on the Basic version of the product.  Most products may rate higher depending on the add-on features available for the product. This is just a general overview of how different systems compare to each other.  Each system offers it's own features that make it better or worse then another system.  Please keep in mind your requirements when choosing an imaging system. Included with each product is some of the hilights that the product offers - often with additional components . You may also visit the user reviews section of our site for other opinions, or to share your opinions.  Each rating scale is between 1 and 5.  1 being the lowest score, 5 being the highest score.

Ratings Scales:

Features Rating:

This is a rating of the different features or options that the imaging system supports. This may include points for the number of different operating systems the system can run on or the different types of scanners the system supports.  The higher this value is, the more features the system provides, however, this usually comes with a matching price tag.  Here is the general scale which is used when rating a system.

• +1 if the application supports more then 1 concurrent data source.
• +2 if the application supports more then 2 database formats.
• +1 if the application can perform all of the following search types:
  • BOOLEAN
  • FULL-TEXT
  • WILDCARD
• +1 if the application supports Fuzzy searching.
• +2 if the application can perform a the above search across multiple data sources simultaneously.
• +5 if the application can create searchable databases on removable-media.
• +2 if the application has more then 3 different import methods.
• +1 if the application supports more then 10 common file formats.
• +1 if the application supports more then 50 common file formats.
• +2 if the application supports third-party addins or viewers.

Then take the above number and divide it by 5

Complexity Rating:

This is a rating of how hard it is to learn or use an imaging system.  When picking a system, you generally would like to choose a system that has a low value for this rating.  However, most systems that offer a large number of features usually rate fairly high on this catagory.

• +1 if the application has more than 2 different ways of doing the same task.
• +1 if the application uses the same name\phrase for 2 different tasks.
• +2 if the application has limited documentation\online help.
• +1 if the application assumes user knows SQL statements or standards.
• +1 if user has to perform multiple\complex functions in order to do advanced searches.
• +2 if the application requires more then 10 hours/week of administration duties. This includes :
  • Clearing Tables\PIDs or Locks
  • Performing duplication of databases or files commonly

Then take the above number and divide it by 2
